Sportstar reported a spectacular 8.03% growth in the number of readers in the 2019 Indian Readership Survey (IRS) for the second quarter (Q2), the findings of which were published recently.
The only sports magazine on the list, Sportstar recorded 37.13 lakh readers in IRS Q2 2019 against 34.37 lakh readers in Q1.
Among the top 10 magazines across all languages, Sporstar was seventh largest in terms of readership and second largest among English-language magazines. India Today (English), the most read English magazine, reported flat growth. General Knowledge Today, which was the second largest among English magazines in Q1, this time fell to third and reported flat growth in IRS Q2. In Q1, Sportstar wasNo. 3 among English-language magazines.
It is significant to note that Sportstar is the only magazine in the top 10 list that reported growth in readership in Q2. All other regional-language magazines including Hindi magazines reported a drop in readership. This indicates the popularity of Sportstar among readers.
IRS is conducted by Nielsen for the Media Research Users Council (MRUC).
